ottery
is both art and science for me. Art in the process of creating with the
elements of earth, water and fire. Science in the manipulation of these
elements. Art in the exploration of form and aesthetic appeal. Science
in the strength and function of a piece of work. The making of pottery
is physical and spiritual, requiring strength and gentle touch and engendering
an inner peace.
My exploration began
with an appreciation of Japanese and British pottery. The simplicity and
elegance of the shapes of these vessels and the use of subtle colour in
the glazes were visually appealing. More recently I have incorporated
Southwest influences into my work with the use of red clays and surface
decoration. I have worked with clay since 1978. I was a member of Penticton
Potters Guild 1978-1982. Recently, I have participated in programs
at the Metchosin International School of the Arts.
I use stoneware
and porcelain clays which are fired to cone 6. My glazes are lead free
and foodsafe.
My studio and showroom are located in my home in Victoria, British Columbia.
